Welcome to Year 1!
There are two Year 1 classes – 1S is taught by Miss Pawson and 1P is taught by Mrs Smalley.
In year 1 we are lucky enough to have 2 teaching assistants who work throughout the week and across both classes. Their names are Miss Watson and Mrs Browne.
The Year 1 staff are friendly and enthusiastic, and are thrilled to be a part of your child’s journey this year. We strongly believe that enhanced provision in Year 1 is crucial to a child’s development. Therefore, we ensure that our classrooms provide plenty of opportunities for purposeful play. This allows children to develop important skills such as sharing, problem-solving, imagination, creativity, communication, making connections, and applying their learning to real-life situations. We strive to find the perfect balance between play and more formal learning styles in
order to offer the best learning opportunities for every child.
We have planned numerous exciting learning experiences for the children as part of a creative and engaging curriculum. Each term will revolve around a carefully selected topic that covers the requirements of the National Curriculum. These topics are as follows:
Autumn 1: Me in my world
Autumn 2: Out of this World
Spring 1: Is there anybody there?
Spring 2: Once upon a time…
Summer 1: Ready, Steady, GROW!
Summer 2: Wonders of the World
Our goal is to make Year 1 a fantastic learning experience for all children, and we are excited to be a part of the progress your child will make this year!
Best regards,
The Year 1 Team.
