Speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) is the term used to describe difficulties with: producing speech sounds accurately, stammering and voice problems such as hoarseness and loss of voice. It also includes children who have difficulties with fluency, forming sounds and words, understanding what others say, and using language to communicate, particularly socially.
Children can be supported in their speech and language development from an early age. If you have concerns around your child’s speech and language development, please speak to your child’s class teacher in the first instance.
